I am intrigued by a sobering perspective through the deliberate abstraction and confrontation of materials and memory. Using a diverse range of media [oil paint, watercolor, detritus, clay, glass, wood, and natural materials], I create assemblage sculptures and paintings that respond to my experiences from critical and interpretive eyes. My work is influenced heavily by my environment, from observations to expectations of the world. I am an avid collector of images, written memory, conversations, trash, and trinkets, all of which serve as a vocabulary for my art practice. Substance trash, used most prevalently, directs me in processing a childhood surrounded by substance use disorders as well as navigating an adulthood without. I am interested in the tendencies that humans share, what makes us feel so different, yet simultaneously the same, particularly the contradictions within the idea of self. My paintings are depictions of observable to illusory spaces that feel familiar to me, from beautiful to atypical. My assemblages respond to the objects themselves, reflecting on personal habits, collective behaviors, and cognitive dissonance. I view each of my works as being in conversation with one another, complementing or contrasting in ideas, similarly to the conflicts within identity. My work is a continuous investigation of how cycles persist and how they can be deconstructed and recycled.
